Ms. Elaine Eclavea welcomed the members and introduced the video entitled, “Universal Newborn Hearing Screening on Guam” for viewing. Ms Eclavea mentioned that some members have already viewed the video, however, for the benefit of new members; the video will be shown which highlights newborn screening on Guam. After the viewing of the video, Dr. Sablan indicated that the video should be updated to highlight the P.L. 27-150, “The Universal Newborn Hearing Screening and Intervention Act of 2005 (UNHSIA).” 2. Ms. Eclavea welcomed and introduced the new members Ms. Bridgette Flores-Lobo, from the US Naval Hospital Early Developmental and Intervention Services (EDIS). In addition, there is a new member who is not present today, Ms. Josephine Santos from GPSS, Special Education, and Vision & Deaf & Hard of Hearing Program. 3. Ms. Eclavea mentioned the need to continue to collaborate with all the partnering agencies such as GMH, Sagua Managu, GPSS, and other service providers to continue to ensure all babies born on Guam are screened for hearing loss and provided the appropriate early intervention services as soon as possible. Guam EHDI and GMHA continue to work together on implementing newborn hearing screening as a “Standard of Care” at the hospital. 4. Ms. Eclavea announced that Mr. Joe Mendiola & Ms. Belinda Gonzalvo who are parent members with the Guam Interagency Coordinating Council (GICC) are also members with the Guam EHDI Advisory Committee. Mr. Mendiola also serves as Chairperson for the Guam EHDI Advisory Committee. 5. Ms. Eclavea inquired if the current members had any suggestions and recommendations for service providers from the private clinics to be invited to be members of the Guam EHDI Advisory. She indicated that any recommendations could be forwarded to Guam EHDI staff. 6. A presentation of the Guam EHDI Project and the Phase II grant was presented by the Guam EHDI staff. Members were provided a copy of the presentation in their Resource Binders. Areas highlighted in the presentation included: * Purpose and Goals of the Guam EHDI Phase I. * Purpose and Goals of the Guam EHDI Phase II. * A review of data for April to May, 2006. * Recommended strategies for reducing false-positive screening results. * Guam EHDI Data Tracking & Surveillance System – Guam’s Child Link. a. Data Collected b. Types of Reports Generated * Comprehensive Plan for Public Awareness a. Ms. Lobo made a suggestion that “no charge” should be included on the reminder notices or “free” to assure that families return for follow-up screening. Mr. Joseph Mendiola, Guam EHDI staff announced that he is currently working with Dimensions Systems on the development of a Guam EHDI website and should be running within the next several months.
