Newborn Hearing Screening Sites

Newborn hearing screening is conducted before the baby is discharged from the hospital or birthing site. The two civilian birthing sites on Guam are located at the Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA) and Sagua Mañågu Birthing Center, both located in the village of Tamuning.


Follow-Up Hearing Screening Sites

If your baby was referred for follow-up hearing screening, there are several sites that conduct the screening.

  1. Sagua Mañågu Birthing Center - Babies born at Sagua Mañågu can get a follow-up hearing screening at the birthing center. Sagua Mañågu will schedule an appointment for your baby before you leave the center. (Ph: 647-1417/8)
  2. Guam EHDI Hearing Screening Office - Babies born at GMHA can get a follow-up hearing screening at the Guam EHDI hearing screening office located at the, University of Guam Campus, Dean Circle House 17. A nurse at GMHA will schedule an appointment for your baby before you leave the hospital. (Ph: 735-2466)
  3. Community Health Centers (DPHSS) - Babies who go to any of the DPHSS Community Health Centers can get a follow-up hearing screening during well-baby checkups. Ask the nurse at the center if your baby needs a follow-up hearing screening.

    • Southern Community Health Center - Inarajan (Ph: 828-7515/6)

Early Intervention Services Site

If a baby is identified with a hearing loss, it is important to receive early intervention services as soon as possible. The Guam Early Intervention Services (GEIS), under the Guam Department of Education provides services to young children, ages birth to three, who have or are at risk for developmental delays and disabilities, and their families. A baby who is identified with a hearing loss is eligible for early intervention services. GEIS offices are located at the Ocean View Middle School campus in the village of Agat.
